Top tips on choosing the best wedding suppliers

19 February 2016

Firstly, a huge congratulation on your engagement! Now that it’s time to start planning your big day, you’ll need to start thinking about not only your venue, but your dream list of wedding suppliers.

There are so many benefits of getting suppliers booked well in advance of the actual day and it will make you feel prepared and less stressed, so it’s a good idea to get started now.

If you are at the stage where you have decided on the venue, then ask to tap into your wedding co-ordinator’s valuable experience and their preferred supplier lists. Like me, they will have tried and tested these contacts in advance, making life easy for you when it comes to choosing reputable companies. Personal endorsements are likely to yield more local suppliers as well, which will save the cost of sourcing a national company who have to travel to you.

Social media is also an excellent tool for tracking down wedding suppliers. The wedding industry has a huge presence on Twitter and most wedding suppliers now have their own Facebook pages too, so you can find out more about them and interact with them virtually. You’ll find online reviews and recommendations from past wedding couples will speak volumes when it comes to trusting your supplier.

Be considerate of your suppliers’ time. You are only planning one wedding but they will be working on many more. Let them know of all your plans and notify them of any major changes that might affect them. Check with them how long they need to do their job leading up to the day and on the day itself and put together a timeline so everyone is clear on your expectations and the timetable of events.

Finally, if after your wedding day you’re really happy with everything they did for you, do take the time to send them a little thank you. An email accompanied with a few photos of their work or a handwritten note always means a lot and is appreciated more than you know.
